Best Places to Study Off-Campus

The semester’s first exams are just around the corner. If you are tired of spending all of your waking hours in the Perry-Castañeda Library, try out one of these trendy spots around town when it is time to hit the books.

Arab Cowboy
Located within walking distance from campus, Arab Cowboy is the perfect place to get those brain juices flowing. Chill out on a big, comfy couch with friends and enjoy some of the best tasting shisha from your very own hookah pipe. Try a simple single flavor, like jasmine, or create your own concoction, like raspberry-citrus mist (it’s delicious, trust me.) Whichever you choose, you’re sure to leave feeling prepared for your next test and full of good vibes.

Bennu Coffee

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Bennu is the prime spot for those night-owl workers (you are most productive after midnight anyway, right?). Tons of seating options make it a good place to study alone, or in groups. Extension cords hang from the ceiling, so you will never have to worry about your laptop dying. Try one of the lounge’s signature gourmet mochas, which are all based off of classic literature figures, such as Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby and Oliver Twist.

Dolce Vita

Not only does Dolce Vita serve up the perfect cup of coffee, but they also have a delectable array of signature cocktails, wine, beer, dessert and gelato. This small café is just as cozy as it’s surrounding Hyde Park neighborhood, so you’re sure to feel right at home as you brainstorm your next big idea. Dolce Vita is a smaller venue, so group studying may be difficult here, but never fear; the friendly wait staff will keep you in good company.

Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery

Located right around the corner from Dolce Vita, Quack’s is one of Austin’s oldest coffee houses. Serving up delicious baked goods made from scratch in-house every day, this is the perfect place to champion through a study guide, while simultaneously satisfying your sweet tooth. Try one of their homemade pies — if you can choose just one of over ten flavors, that is.

Spider House Café

As one of Austin’s hippest hangouts, Spider House Café provides a welcoming and eclectic environment for every occasion.  Whether you’re catching up with old friends, or writing a thesis paper, the sprawling outdoor patio has a seat for you. Set up shop under the twinkling lights, grab a smoothie from Juiceland and enjoy the company of your fellow, undeniably hip Austinites.
